What We Teach

"Walk cheerfully over the world, answering that of God in everyone." - George Fox

MISSION STATEMENT

Emerald City MCC, Seattle is a theologically and culturally diverse community of faith, rooted in Progressive Christianity and in LGBTQ+(Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) communities. We embody Radical Inclusivity in our worship, service, education, and fellowship. We are a home for Queer Spirituality, working on the margins of society to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, which is a message of God’s Unconditional Love for all. We journey together in the Way of Christ, bringing about peace and justice in the world around us.

VISION STATEMENT

We at ECMCCS put all of our trust in our God, who has brought us this far and is leading us into a promising future. By the lead of the Holy Spirit, we are opening our hearts and minds to the needs of the community around us, discerning how our gifts meet those needs. We reach beyond the walls of our worship space to people in need of loving community, joyous spirituality, and basic resources. In the face of injustice based on race, gender, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, ability, etc., we speak with the prophetic voice of Christ. We are activists for social justice. As we grow spiritually and numerically, we will provide greater resources, worship and educational opportunities, and space for Queer/Trans folks and allies in Seattle and beyond.

OUR CORE VALUES

Spiritual Growth: We foster spiritual growth through worship, small group study, one-on-one mentoring, and personal spiritual practice. We offer a judgment-free space for all to grow in relationship with the God of their own understanding.

Loving Community: We recognize Jesus’ call to love one another and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Whenever we gather, we do so in the knowledge that the Spirit of God has brought us together for mutual support and sharing. As we pray for each other, we find strength and healing. When we socialize, we see God in our laughter and fun. In an age of technology, our community also reaches around the world through our web presence.

Radical Inclusivity & Hospitality: We are a truly diverse community. We come from many spiritual backgrounds, within Christianity and beyond. We celebrate each person’s identity and relationship with the Divine. You are not just tolerated or accepted; you are celebrated!

Generosity: Recognizing that we are all stewards of God’s gifts, we embrace a spirit of giving. We share our time, talent, and treasure in order to build up the Body of Christ. We support our church with joyous, generous, and sacrificial giving. We are also generous in our giving to our local community through ministries such as the Cart of Kindness and the Do Unto Others (DUO) offering.

Justice & Peace Activism: As Jesus Christ ministered on the margins of society, so do we. We speak Truth to unjust systems of power. We condemn acts of violence, abuse, and fear mongering. We challenge systems of power that perpetuate poverty. And we continue our 35+ year fight to end HIV/AIDS.

Metropolitan Community Churches Statement of Faith

Preamble

Metropolitan Community Churches is one chapter in the story of the Church, the Body of Christ. We are people on a journey, learning to live into our spirituality, while affirming our bodies, our genders, our sexualities. We don't all believe exactly the same things. And yet in the midst of our diversity, we build community, grounded in God's radically inclusive love for all people. We are part of an ongoing conversation on matters of belief and faith, shaped by scripture and the historic creeds, building on those who have come before us. Our chapter begins when God says to us: "Come, taste, and see."

Our Faith

"Come, taste, and see." Jesus Christ, You invite all people to Your open table. You make us Your people, a beloved community. You restore the joy of our relationship with God, even in the midst of loneliness, despair, and degradation. We are each unique and we all belong, a priesthood of all believers. Baptized and filled with Your Holy Spirit, You empower us to be Your healing presence in a hurting world.

We expect to see Your reign on earth as it is in heaven as we work toward a world where everyone has enough, wars cease, and all creation lives in harmony. We affirm Your charge to all of humanity to care for the land, sea, and air. Therefore, we will actively resist systems and structures which are destroying Your creation.

With all of creation we worship You—every tribe, every language, every people, every nation. We know You by many names, Triune God, beyond comprehension, revealed to us in Jesus Christ, who invites us to the feast. Amen.
